# Export a Proof of Ownership Document

> Create a Proof of Ownership PDF for an address your workspace owns through the Fireblocks API.

A proof of ownership document is a PDF confirming that a blockchain address belongs to your legal entity, for a regulator, auditor, bank, or counterparty. You can create one for any address registered to your own legal entity. It uses Address Registry data, so your workspace must participate in [Address Registry](/reference/address-registry).

## What you can do through the API

| Task | Console | API |
| - | - | - |
| Create a proof of ownership PDF | Yes | [`POST /address_registry/proof_of_ownership_exports`](/api-reference/compliance/create-a-proof-of-ownership-pdf-for-an-address) |

## Step 1: Check the address

Look up the address and check `proofOfOwnershipAvailable` in the response. When it is `true`, creating the document is likely to succeed. See [Look up an address](/reference/address-registry#look-up-an-address).

## Step 2: Create the document

Send the address. It must resolve to your workspace, in the same format as the lookup endpoint. The request accepts an optional `Idempotency-Key` header, valid for 24 hours.

```json theme={"system"}
{ "address": "0x742d35cc6634c0532925a3b844bc9e7595f0beb0" }
```

```ts theme={"system"}
const { data } = await fireblocks.compliance.createAddressRegistryProofOfOwnership({
  addressRegistryCreateProofOfOwnershipRequest: {
    address: "0x742d35cc6634c0532925a3b844bc9e7595f0beb0",
  },
});
fs.writeFileSync("proof-of-ownership.pdf", Buffer.from(data.pdf, "base64"));
```

The PDF is returned base64-encoded in `pdf`.

Save the PDF as soon as you receive it. Fireblocks does not store it, and there is no way to download it again.

## Errors

| Status | Meaning | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| `400` | The address is missing, or your workspace is not opted in to Address Registry. | Check the request and your participation status. |
| `403` | Your workspace is blocked from creating proof of ownership documents. | Contact Fireblocks Support. |
| `404` | The address is not found, not owned by your workspace, or not usable for a document. | Check `proofOfOwnershipAvailable` first. |
| `429` | Rate limited. | Retry after backing off. |
| `500` | Internal error; no PDF is returned. | Do not retry automatically; contact Fireblocks Support if it persists. |
| `503` | Temporarily unavailable. | Retry after backing off. |

`500` and `503` return the same error code; use the HTTP status to tell them apart.

## Limitations

* **Your own addresses only:** the address must be registered to your own legal entity.
* **No re-download:** Fireblocks does not store the PDF.
* Address Registry limitations apply: not available on European or Swiss-hosted workspaces, or on Developer Sandbox workspaces.
